Scrubs Health & Training Center is a division of The Life & Knowledge Group, LLC, a company started by two women from different backgrounds but with a similar belief and goal to help others around them and in their communities. Both women are registered nurses that have worked in the health care field for multiple years and have noticed several changes that have impacted not only the health care industry but the communities around them.
One such impact is the change in economic and technological developments. If there’s one thing we learned recently, from the COVID pandemic, is that due to technological advancements that most industrial and customer based big businesses can survive and thrive with less physical staff than ever before. This discovery has left many of our community members unemployed or underemployed. What we have also learned is this is not so much true for the health care industry. Though technology has advanced in the health care field and more individuals are utilizing telehealth options, the health care field remains primarily a person-to-person industry requiring individuals to interact physically with other individuals, families, and the community.
Demands within the health care field grow every day with our aging and changing population. As the generation known as the Baby Boomers reaches retirement age and status, not only do we lose a whole generation of experienced health care providers, but we gain a new population of individuals requiring the knowledgeable quality care that they once provided to others. On top of that due to the economic impact of unemployment and underemployment there has been an increase in substance abuse resulting in a younger population of individuals requiring medical care related to their substance abuse. These individuals require a substantial amount of health care services in their homes, rehabilitation and care facilities for greater amounts of time due to their longer life expectancy. These increasing demands for health care providers are currently going unmet due to a shortage of trained individuals, resulting in an increase in family and loved one’s health and financial needs.
Noticing the impact that the shortage of trained health care providers was having on their communities, these two nurses came together from very different backgrounds with a goal to help these communities and the neighboring communities. The plan is to assist individuals wanting to enter the high demanding field of health care by providing the education necessary and utilizing the resources available to them to help the greatest number of individuals possible. Our goal…to help individuals to help others by providing the education and training necessary to achieve quality competent health care within their lives and communities. With this goal in mind and combined great efforts Scrubs Health & Training Center was created.
My name is Tammy Shope, RN and I never thought I would be where I am today as the Owner/Program Coordinator of Scrubs Health & Training Center. I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. My parents were school dropouts that worked low paying, back breaking jobs to make ends meet. We moved around a lot when I was a child due to finances, which meant I changed schools frequently. I was bullied throughout my educational years resulting in me dropping out of high school. I later obtained my G.E.D. It wasn’t until I had my first child and my father passed away that I entered the health field. I started by getting my Nurse Aide Certification (CNA) and worked as a HHA for many years. My passion and interest in medicine and health care grew. After the birth of my second child, I decided to become a medical assistant. So, I went back to school and obtained my Associates of Medical Office Management and worked in an OBGYN office for a short while. During that time, I was inspired by the compassion and empathy that the Physician I worked for showed her patients that I decided to go back to school to become a nurse with the hopes of someday being a NP. I worked hard and earned my Associates of Nursing and passed the NCLEX to become a RN. Since then, I have used every opportunity to learn and gain as much knowledge as I can about the nursing field. I have certifications from The American Red Cross and The Ohio Department of Health as an instructor/trainer for their approved programs. Some may say I am an over achiever but that’s not the case…I like to collect knowledge and share it with others. I like to think that is what makes me such a great program coordinator/instructor for Scrubs Health & Training Center. That and the fact that I was taught throughout my life to work hard and to treat people the way you want to be treated. So, I try to always try to work hard to achieve my goals and treat people with empathy, compassion and understanding. I believe if I can do it so can you. It's time to take the first step in a new high demand career.
